Secret Sandwich |
| Take two thick slices of Noonie's day old bread, smear Honey Cup honey mustard
liberally over both. Cover both slices with green leaf lettuce. Then on one slice only lay smoked turkey on the lettuce,
a tomato slice on the turkey and sprinkle it with shredded carrot. Then on the lay a slice of provolone cheese over the
carrot then a green pepper ring on top of the cheese. Sprikle with sprouts. Cover with the other slice, lettuce side down.
The letuce should be stuck to the bread with honey mustard so it doesn't fall off when you turn it upside down to cover the
sandwich. Slice sandwich in half with a knife. Wrap in tightly in plastic wrap. Use too much wrap. Tape on label. Tadaaa!
Weighs one pound. Costs Four Bucks. |

| Ward Seven Run-Off March 21 |
| Saturday, March 11, 2006 |
It's down to the "iron lady" of Burlington politics versus the young upstart from Sandra Circle with a website under continuous construction. What might happen in this not-so-instant runoff? Had the election been an IRV, Cole supporters' second choices would have determined it. But as it is the candidates in the runoff have two more weeks to cultivate new supporters, as well as coax old ones back to the polls.
We lose the potential of those two extra weeks of campaigning and voter recruitment with IRV. Decelles, like Kiss got 39%. In the mayoral IRV election that proved to be enough. In the city council race Decelles fell a percent shy of 40, the required plurality for a first-round win.
Will new voters come to the runoff? Who will win more returning Cole voters? Who will win?
Oooooh! It's going to be tight! After writing Ellie off for the third time in a row, will the Dems come crawling back to her with their tails between their legs once again? Or will they finally break beneath a wave of anti-tax sentiment and cede the seat to a young Republican who may hold it many terms? |

I really like Ellie Blais and hope she wins.
The city D's are really lowlifes for cutting her loose.
I think I am going to see about getting Progs to help Ellie...
-
The Dems of the new north end keep dismissing Ellie, and she just keeps handing their asses back to them every time.
This runoff is going to be close. Ellie has been squeeking them out the last few times, but Decelles is only 28. He might be able to hussle better than an Alan Sousie, for example. He's much better looking than Sousie, too. That counts.
-
Why would the Progs want to help Ellie? She's basically a Republican - which is why the Dems cut her loose in the first place. Just look at her record.
-
-
Last night, Ellie and Kurt Wright were the only two people who voted against the BED rate increase.
-
That was last night, but do you have an example from before you said Ellie's record looked like a Republican's? It's weird to retroactively justify a claim with new information.
-
That vote must have been because she needs to win in Ward 7.
-
Actually, I bet it's because she doesn't want her own bill to go up, but you're right- most in ward 7 probably agree with her.
-
And if I used an old example, you would have just said that was too long ago.
Why did the Democrats oust her at their caucus? Do you know? I heard from a Democrat it was because she opposed tax increases and school budgets too often and didn’t vote like them.
The example from last night was just a really good example. How did the Dems vote? How did the Progs vote? How did she vote? And who else voted that way?
-
Looks like Linda Deliduka wanted the seat for herself. This story from the BFP might help explain...
-
Hey, thanks for proving my point. From your article...
"Blais, a two-term Democratic veteran, was in the eyes of party stalwarts insufficiently supportive of school budget requests, she said, and as a result had the Democratic nomination snatched from her at the ward caucus by newcomer Linda Deliduka."
As I said, they didn't like her because she opposed school budgets.
-
"...in the eyes of party stalwarts ..."
Well, who is getting the stalwarts' support in the run-off? If Ellie is basically a Republican, why do they care who wins?
I think the stalwart who took the nomination from Ellie might have read Ellies record differently had she not wanted to run herself.
Or hey, maybe Ellie's voting record is conservative, but I know the Dems still back her over Decelles.
There's a little thing James Carvelle calls "stickin'" that the NNE Dems would have been better off practicing with Ellie.
-
Regardless of your feelings about their positions, I thought Decelles came off as more intelligent, articulate, and thoughtful during the channel 17 debate.
-
Those who've come up close and personal to Soucie know he can foam at the mouth; I wouldn't be surprised but what there might have been some NNE republican votes in Ellie's winning pile.
-
I think Progressives would want to help Ellie because she is a decent human being and community member.
The D's had THIER reasons for ousting her. Progressives are not D's. Unthinking support for all school budgets is no badge of honor, it's a sign of lack of knowledge and a reactionary practice.
Really, though, that's all you got on Ellie's record? The way you were talking I imagined you knew what you were talking about maybe... I guess not!
-
Has a city council run-off ever been blogged about in such detail (or at all)?
I think we're making Burlington history!
-
Indeed, bloggers are making history all across the land; 'bye NYTimes ;-((
