Take two thick slices of Noonie's day old bread, smear Honey Cup honey mustard
liberally over both. Cover both slices with green leaf lettuce. Then on one slice only lay smoked turkey on the lettuce,
a tomato slice on the turkey and sprinkle it with shredded carrot. Then on the lay a slice of provolone cheese over the
carrot then a green pepper ring on top of the cheese. Sprikle with sprouts. Cover with the other slice, lettuce side down.

Free Press may Sue City for Emails

I emailed Briggs after reading this article and he wouldn't deny the Burlington Free Press might sue City Hall to see the more personal emails between Joe McNeil and Owiso Makuku, exchanged from city computers.
Obviously the Free Press is beating a dead horse here since Joe already resigned, but the story is just so damn salacious, it's irresistible. Plus, it's fun to dream about what it would be like to make $200,000.00 in just over one year, like Owiso Makuku.
This story has everything it needs to attract jealous, prurient, voyeuristic curiosity- including a legal justification. That sucks, because I really like Joe McNeil. All well. He's only human and so are we.
Long after I'd left the City Council, Joe told me politics was in my blood. That made me feel good and he didn't know how right he was. Besides being descended from a 900 year line of Armenian priests on my father's side- my mother's father was a Rutland County legislator in the sixties. His name was Benoni Griffin. He was a farmer and he died before I was born.
This scandal is reprehensible. There must be other sweetheart deals that have been made by Joe McNeil. Clearly the progs in power shouldn't get a pass. If Joe had been a republican the shit would be hitting the fan so hard I'm afraid Old Joe should be disbarred and sent to an early retirement. Where the hell is the liberal press the crickets are overwhelming.
What do you mean by "sweetheart deals?" Is that an attempt at a double-entendre?
I'm pretty sure Joe McNeil is a Democrat because he stood guard over the caucus that nominated Hinda Miller in 2006. There's a pretty good case to be made Peter Clavelle is a Democrat too. Bob Kiss is a Progressive and Bernie Sanders is an Independent. Peter Brownell is a Republican.
I've already granted Bob Kiss permanent immunity vis-a-vis the M&M scandal in a previous post. Don't blame Bob. It's not his fault. If you want to blame Jane Knodell and Tim Ashe, fine. You could make the case that Jane and Tim have been around and should have noticed the lack of oversight on the zoning re-write; But Bob is totally new to city government. He's doing a good job as mayor and I don't want to rock the boat. He gets a second term. I don't foresee that he'll want a third, but you never know.
Joe McNeil will not be disbarred. I don't think he should be, either. But about the crickets- the Free Press seems to be on your side, Caller. I'm covering it (against my better judgement) too. What more local liberal media coverage do you want? An in-depth hour-long Marselis Parsons investigative report?
Now about that "woodshed" comment- I suspect part of the reason you chose to remain anonymous is because you knew some of the things you were writing were crossing the line. This line more than any other, and you saved it for last.
Still and all, you've given us food for thought here, and I thank you for comments.
Makkuku gets the African American free pass? McNeil gifts 100 grand to a NY state firm with no actionable recourse? give me a break... This is a failure of the local machine. Rape the tax payers there are many more ants in the wood pile if you begin to dig. Haik your racisms showing.

It sounds like you are the racist here, my friend. Makuku didn't do anything wrong. She did the job the city paid her to do. If anyone had a conflict of interest it was Joe McNeil. Makuku went to MIT and was fully qualified to work on the zoning re-write. Nobody has ever disputed that.
Sure, she got paid a lot of money- and believe me, I'm jealous. But what's race got to do with anything? She could just as easily been Chinese. What's the difference?

simmer down Haik, we are not racist here. You or me okay. But to say that Owiso is an innocent is BS. MIT grad smart as a whip fully qualified no doubt. However there was a clear seduction here and the money is an issue. It is evident that there was at the very least an overt flirtation couched with pillow talk. The bill included was for about a 75 hour work week. for an entire year. I find this quite bizzare that we hired a consultant paid that consultant 100 thousand dollars. Recieved nothing of value for that 100 thousand apparently didn't sue or settle a concession. I mean if Joe was such a wonderful negotiator why did he pay somebody a whole lot of something for nothing? this seems incompetent at best and corrupt at worst. Following up with Makkuku she is the brilliant innocent give me a break. She set the trap caught her prey and took complete advantage of the situation. Is the rewrite up to speed sure but it is clouded in a shady dealing. It makes me ponder what other wink an nod deals have been made in town. With our money, these are the same questions I would demand that we answer no matter the party affiliation. We basically gave Makkuku a blank check, Im sure she knew that and took advantage of the situation 75 hours for fifty two weeks gimme a break.
One last point as an addendum to my ramblings. Lets not confuse the point of being highly qualified and the ability to defraud or pad a bill. An Example Scooter Libby would be considered highly qualified for his position a the White house. It didn't stop him from acting in a corrupt manner. There are highly qualified individuals who act badly in their own self interest all the time. You may think Owiso innocent i say lets see the full record and then judge. Seems this is a case of gilding the lilly, unfortunately it is tainting her good name. But it took two to tango.
