New School Board Leadership
On Tuesday the Burlington School Board reconvened with five new members. The first order of business was to elect a new Board Chair to replace Fred Lane who was defeated at the polls in March. The Board’s most senior member Keith Pillsbury, who had never been chair before, was elected unanimously. In my opinion he did a great job running the meeting and I’m very optimistic about his leadership going forward. I was also very impressed with our five new members and look forward to working with them in the days ahead.
Yesterday Chairman Pillsbury called me and asked if I’d be willing to serve as Chair of the School Board’s Policy and Advocacy Committee. I have accepted his appointment and look forward to the work ahead. I hope to help move the school district toward simpler, more understandable (and possibly fewer) policies, and to focus our advocacy for the district in the most targeted and effective ways possible.
I don’t know yet who will be serving on the other committees, but I can say for sure your new Burlington School Board holds a lot of promise.

I commend Mr. Pillsbury on his past service on the board, but I have also questioned in the past how a teacher in another community could serve on a school board in another district, as one of the issues concerning salaries that often times comes up is comparing to another local district. My opinion is that that is a severe conflict of interest. But now Keith has retired so it is a mute point in this case at least.
I charge Mr Pillsbury the following.
Do not be drawn in to a scenario that what Jeannie says must happen.
Take your own stand and do not let Jeannie rule your decision.
Super Collins has many many questionable decisions that follow her, so I ask you hold her accountable in the future for the decisions made.
Pretty clear that Fred Lane and her were in cahoots on most decisions in the past.
I only ask Keith to be fair to the taxpayers, the children, and the teachers in the Burlington school system.
I would welcome a response by Keith on these issues.
Keith if you read this you can find my number, or email on the ward 4 and 7 npa page.
Look forward to hearing from you Keith.
I hereby call upon Mr. Pillsbury to resign forthwith.
Why is it, Dale, since Commissioner Pillsbury is now retired, that comparisons to his former district are moot? He has served on the Board for 20 years, but has only been retired for a handful…the fact that his former contract treated him quite well, both in salary and working conditions, are most definitely fair game – I hope he is not mute on that topic, otherwise…talk about hypocrisy, right Haik, aren’t you an expert on that subject?
