Adam Yauch 1964-2012

This is not the news I want on this cloudy Friday afternoon. I think it’s fair to say the Beastie Boys touched my life in a significant way, and of the three of them I have always most identified with MCA. Click the picture to read about Adam Yauch at the New York Times blog.

Mike Lavoie 1976-2011

My neigbbor Mike, who lived across the street from me, passed away on Saturday. I’ve cut and paste his Free Press obituary below. He was an incredibly nice guy. I can’t tell you how many times he came over and plowed my driveway for free. He plowed lots of people’s driveways for free. He helped out the whole neighborhood all the time, loaning anyone who needed it his tools, time and money. Last fall he loaned me his pressure washer, and then his paint sprayer. Neighbors could pretty much walk into his garage at will and borrow anything. He was always friendly and had a unique sense of humor. The whole neighborhood will miss him.

Allyn Griffin 1941-2011

My uncle Allyn, my mother’s younger brother passed away on Friday at Rutland Regional medical center.  He was 69 years old.  Allyn was earnest and unassuming.  A rarity in modern times, he was hard working, responsible, honest, and always friendly and good natured.  He was a very good man.  He worked for the same company for decades until he retired, and he loved the same woman throughout a fifty year marriage, raising four children and never parting until death.  He was pure and simple, and he is dearly missed.

Three Years Ago Today

My mom died on this date three years ago.  I run this post sometimes to commemorate her.  Today I’m not reprinting it- I’m just linking to the original post with the original comments.  I miss my old blogger blog.

Max Wall 1915-2009

When I was 18 Rabbi Wall paid me and a friend to move a bunch of books. It was an extremely lucky gig for me to fall into at that time, as I needed the money to take my girlfriend to her high school prom. Thank you Rabbi Wall.
